12 hours chasing the light. More than 50 global rides. Celebrating a moment of euphoric equilibrium.
Astrophysics is truly awesome, isn't it? Take the Equinox for example. The rare phenomenon that occurs only two times a year when the celestial equator intersects the ecliptic – when the sun crosses the equator and everywhere on earth shares approximately equal 12 hours of day and night. A moment of mindblowing proportions when you step back and think about it. Ok, we see some eyes rolling at the back so the science lesson is over. School's out; let's move on to celebrating some extracurricular endeavours.
Of course, we never need much of an excuse to get out on two wheels. Yet, the arrival of the first Equinox of the year proved too irresistible a challenge to mobilise around a moment that brings the international riding community together as one universal force. The goal: to chase the light and ride 12 hours together. The results were simply an awe-inspiring achievement for everyone who got it done. In symmetry from sun-up to sundown, from our hometown of Melbourne to Mumbai, Taipei, L.A., Austin, London, Berlin, Copenhagen, and beyond, you showed up, you rode out, you smashed out thousands of cumulative KMs in the sun's rays. Powering over gravel, on roads, grinding it out up testing gradients toward the higher reaches of the clouds. Across all the interconnected continents and riders, a massive shout-out to some stellar energy on show.
It's at times like these that the feeling of global connectedness shouldn't be underestimated. While this was a 12-hour moment of collective effort worldwide, it's just the beginning of what can be achieved when rolling with others. The hope is this is a springboard to inspire shared success at any time of the year. It could be right now, tomorrow, next year, next month. Whenever. Wherever. With whoever. Because there's no time like the present to get out there and pursue greatness. And hey, remember, the next Equinox is coming in September so we'll see you out there for the sequel. Mark it on your calendars people…
…Until then, keep chasing that light.
