MAAP x Basso 2019
With the Shimano SuperCrit being run and won on Sunday, the Aussie Summer of Cycling is in full swing. With the pace hot and the summer vibes flowing in the beachside suburb, it was the perfect place for the MAAP/Basso Cycling Team to relaunch for 2018/19.
Now into their third year as a team, the MAAP/Basso Team has been reloaded with a fresh look for the year ahead. A team started to celebrate the joys of racing hard or just being out on the bike with some mates, the new season presents another opportunity to hit the road and have some fun, all across the country.
MAAP’s successful partnership with Basso Bikes is continuing for another year, with the team moving onto the third iteration of our custom designed frameset.
The Basso Diamante is the ultimate statement of Basso Bikes’ identity, and a masterpiece in attention to detail, craftsmanship, and elegance. This year’s bike is so much more than just a fresh paint job too, featuring disc brakes for the first time. The 2019 MAAP x Basso Diamante team bikes are the ultimate tool for our riders.
It’s not just Basso who are supporting the team; we’re lucky enough to have several other brands supporting the outfit. MAAP is kitting out the team in some brand-new colours; Shimano is fitting the frames out with their world-class componentry; Schwalbe Tyres will be providing some shoes for us to get around on; and Rocket Espresso are bringing their 98-octane, liquid-gold fuel.
With the new year comes a few new faces; Alex Smyth @smitcycles comes to the team having raced last year with the Drapac EF p/b Cannondale Holistic Development Team. Based out of Melbourne, Alex represented Malta at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and will aim to represent them again on the world stage this coming year. Aaron Bicknell @agbicknell joins the MAAP/Basso team too, coming from the Mobius Future Racing team. Also with NRS and international experience, he’s a classy rider and will be leading the charge in Sydney’s criterium scene. Another new face on the team already has ties to MAAP; Ian Elliott @ianhunterelliott is MAAP’s former Marketing Manager. Now the North American Marketing Lead at Strava, he’ll be racing out of San Francisco. Returning to the team are Luke Parker, @lukeparker1993 Adam Phelan, @adamphelan James Cummings, @jamescummo James Mowatt, @jamescmowatt Shaun Cash, @shaunxcash and Charles Howlett, @chucky11 all on board for another year.
Where can you find the team? While we’ll be out on the open road no matter the occasion, we’ll be getting stuck into some racing too. For a start, we’ll be at some local amateur criteriums and road races. When the opportunity comes, you’ll see us at some bigger races like Melbourne to Warrnambool, and more crits like SuperCrit.
