A Training Ride with TPR
In their inaugural season, the MAAP-sponsored TP Racing is announcing themselves as one of the key players in the hotly-contested CX scene. The team’s three Brits, Tom Pidcock, Dan Tulett and Emily Wadsworth have all posted impressive results despite their youth. The second half of the season will only provide more opportunities for the squad to feature on the podium, especially in the lead-up to the season-ending World Championships in Bogense, Denmark. MAAP is proud to be part of the support crew for an outfit not only as successful as the TP Racing Team but also one that’s fostering the sport’s next crop of elite talent.
The team’s leader Tom Pidcock is showing why he’s the early-season favourite for the sport’s biggest prizes. It’s been a hugely successful season already for Pidcock, with the highlight being the European Championships, where he came away with the win in the U23 category, and the European Champion’s Jersey. Held in s’-Hertogenbosch, in the Netherlands, Pidcock was dominant as he won his new team’s first race at their biggest event yet.
Since that day, Pidcock’s been in a true purple patch, winning consecutive U23 World Cup events at Tabor and Koksijde, leading the overall competition after four rounds, and also leading the U23 category for the Superprestige series. The winner of the U23 World Cup last year, the sparkling form he’s shown this year has him as the favourite to retain the title this season. With the World Championships in the distance too, MAAP might be making up another custom jersey for him.
Dan Tulett’s been joining Pidcock at the pointy end of races lately. After a slower start to the season where he was caught up in crashes, he’s finding form too. After fighting back and finishing 13th at the European Championships, he finished as the second U23 at the most recent Superprestige event in Gavere (just behind Pidcock). Fifth in U23s at the recent Tabor World Cup is another indication that Tulett’s on the up, and it gives hope that he can challenge his teammate for some wins in the coming races.
Emily Wadsworth has been flying the TP Racing flag in the Women’s category, where she’s going toe to toe with her more experienced competitors. A lack of U23 races for the ladies means the 19-year-old has had her work cut out for her, but she’s stepping up to the challenge and impressing. Podium finishes in U23 Women at GP Neerpelt and Ardooie are amongst the highlights, while she saw her first top 10 in the Superprestige series at the most recent event in Gavere.
The TP Racing Team recently headed to Girona for two weeks, escaping from the cold in Belgium, where the team is usually based. Girona still presented the opportunity for the squad to help MAAP test out some of our new products, the Pass Pro LS Jersey, Vertical DWR LS Jersey and our new Outline Jacket and Vest. This collection was designed with winter training in mind, so it presented the perfect opportunity for us to check in the with the team. There, we could catch up and reflect on their early season successes, and they could put our new kit through its paces.
Kept warm and dry, the team was happy out on the roads towards Costa Brava, despite the unpredictable weather. With that, they’re ready to get stuck into the second half of the season, and MAAP’s ready to help them celebrate some more wins.
Stanley Street Social recently sat down with the team to talk about how the team was formed, racing CX and goals for the World Championships. Give it a listen here.
